Port Charlotte, Fla. – To better serve clients in Charlotte County, the Florida Department of Health has extended their hours for WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) appointments at the 1100 Loveland Blvd. location.  The new hours are 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  The WIC Office in Englewood will keep its current hours of 8 a.m. to noon, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. every Tuesday.

“We are excited to offer our WIC clients appointment times that fit their schedule,” said Paula Allison, WIC Coordinator.  “The extended hours will make it easier for our clients who work or attend school full time to access services and receive important health and nutrition benefits that will help their families be healthier.”

WIC is a nutrition program that helps working families with supplemental foods, breastfeeding support, nutrition education, and referrals to health care and other services.  In addition to pregnant women and new moms, children up to 5 years old may be eligible for WIC benefits.  Grandparents, foster parents and dads can also access WIC benefits for their families.

Allison added, “The Florida Department of Health in Charlotte County listens to the voice of the client.  We have had many families request earlier and later hours, and we are happy to offer those hours based on those requests.  In its first two weeks, our clients have been very happy with the earlier and later hours, which reduces the amount of time they have to request off from work.”

For questions about the WIC program or to make an appointment, call 941-624-7200.  Englewood residents can call 941-681-3750 (WIC services only).

WIC is an equal opportunity provider.
