Port Charlotte, Fla.— The Florida Department of Health in Charlotte County (DOHCharlotte) Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program celebrates World Breastfeeding Week. WIC will cohost a breastfeeding event with Charlotte County Healthy Start Coalition.
Attendees will be provided with breastfeeding information, breastfeeding classes, a latch-on moment for all parents to breastfeed their infant together and a breast pump giveaway. Infants are encouraged. The event will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at:

World Breastfeeding Week is August 1-7, 2023. World Breastfeeding Week is time to raise awareness about the benefits of and encourage breastfeeding. Breastfeeding provides health benefits for both the infant and the mother. It can help reduce the risk of asthma, type 1 diabetes, obesity, and SIDS in babies. It can also help reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, ovarian cancer, breast cancer, and high blood pressure in women. Breastmilk is safe and clean, and it provides infants with antibodies.
