Charlotte County, Fla. — The Florida Department of Health in Charlotte County (DOH-Charlotte) and Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida invites seniors and anyone concerned about falling to attend the A Matter of Balance program starting on Thursday, January 15, 2026.
The classes will be held weekly through March 5 from 1 – 3 p.m. at:
Ann and Chuck Dever Regional Park Recreation Center
6961 San Casa Drive
Englewood, FL 34224
A Matter of Balance is an award-winning program designed to help participants learn practical strategies to manage falls and increase physical activity levels.
The program includes two-hour classes once a week for eight weeks, with physical activities starting on the third week. Participants must attend the first or second class to continue the program. To receive a certificate of attendance, participants must attend at least five classes. All classes are free.
Register to attend A Matter of Balance at surveymonkey.com/r/MOB2026.
“Falls remain one of the most serious health risks for older adults, and in Charlotte County they are the leading cause of injury‑related emergency department visits,” said DOH-Charlotte Health Officer Joseph Pepe. “DOH-Charlotte’s fall‑prevention programs — such as free Tai Chi demonstrations and the A Matter of Balance workshops — play a vital role in improving strength, balance, and confidence, helping residents stay independent and reduce their risk of life‑altering injuries.”
Participants will have the opportunity to learn to view falls as controllable, set goals for increasing physical activity, make changes to reduce fall risks, and exercise to increase strength and balance.
