Temporary Holding Septic Tanks

Environmental Public Health - DOH-Charlotte

Onsite Sewage Program

Would you like to know more about DOH-Charlotte's Onsite Sewage Program?

Temporary holding septic tanks are designed to temporarily store sewage and wastewater until it can be transported to a treatment facility.
.
Unlike septic tanks, which treat wastewater and allow some to leach into the ground, holding tanks are watertight and have no outlet piping, meaning they must be pumped out regularly to prevent overflow.
.
The Florida Department of Health in Charlotte County (DOH-Charlotte) inspects temporary holding septic tank installations in Charlotte County, Florida, to approve their placement and to inspect tank integrity.
.
A temporary holding septic tank installation permit applicant must provide to DOH-Charlotte a copy of a contract with a permitted disposal company stating the holding tank capacity, a site plan including the proposed location of the holding tank in proximity to all surrounding features (potable waterlines, surface water, building, driveway), and the scheduled pumping frequency.
.
The applicant must also submit to DOH-Charlotte a completed Application for Construction Permit (DEP 4015), accompanied by a $385 holding tank permit fee.
.
