Community Health Planning, Promotion, and Communication - DOH-Charlotte

The Florida Department of Health in Charlotte County's (DOH-Charlotte) Community Health Planning, Promotion, and Communication division offers free activities in Charlotte County, Florida, to prevent falls and improve the balance of anyone concerned about experiencing a fall, including older adults.


Tai Chi

DOH-Charlotte offers free Tai Chi presentations provided by an instructor certified by the Tai Chi for Health Institute.

Tai Chi is a slow-moving meditation exercise that combines stress reduction with slow movements.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Tai Chi "is a good example" of the kind of exercise that can make people's legs stronger and improve their balance.

A Matter of Balance

DOH-Charlotte, in partnership with Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida, hosts A Matter of Balance, an award-winning program designed to help seniors learn practical strategies to manage falls and increase physical activity levels.
