The Florida Department of Health in Charlotte County is the first health department in the U.S. to receive a bronze medal award for being a Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB). The award was given by the League of American Bicyclists (LAB) in September 2010. This unique award is original numbered artwork by Teliah Lembert and is displayed at our Loveland campus in Port Charlotte.
The Florida Department of Health in Charlotte County (DOH-Charlotte) has received multiple Prudential Financial - Davis Productivity awards.  Since 1989, award winners have produced more than $5.9 billion worth of added value. In 2017, DOH-Charlotte staff members Heather Boyd, Alex McKeithan, Gregory Holder, and Abbey Ellner were Plaque Winners. 

The Florida Department of Health in Charlotte County (DOH-Charlotte) was certified as Project Public Health Ready on February 21, 2008. This designation recognizes health departments that demonstrate they are prepared to respond to emergency public health events to protect the public and the environment. PPHR is a collaborative activity of the National Association of County & City Health Officials (NACCHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). 

DOH-Charlotte was re-recognized by NACCHO in 2013, and in 2018.
