Charlotte County, Fla. — The Florida Department of Health in Charlotte County (DOH-Charlotte) invites residents to attend its second annual Mind and Motion: Aging Strong on Monday, September 21.
The event will be held from 9-11:30 a.m. at:
Family Services Center
21500 Gibralter Drive
Port Charlotte, FL 33952
At this free event, multiple organizations will highlight fall prevention strategies, raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease, promote resources for seniors, and encourage overall health and wellness.
“In 2025, emergency medical services responded to nearly 6,700 falls in Charlotte County,” said Health Officer Joseph Pepe. “As the second-oldest county in Florida with over 40% of residents being 65 years and over, we must be at the forefront of fall prevention strategies while remaining steadfast in connecting older adults with community resources.”
No registration is required for this event. Residents of all ages and caregivers are welcome to attend.
FALL AND DIABETES PREVENTION CLASSES
DOH-Charlotte is also inviting residents to participate in free fall prevention and diabetes prevention classes at different locations throughout Charlotte County.
A Matter of Balance is an award-winning program designed to help seniors learn practical strategies to manage falls and increase physical activity levels through eight weekly two-hour classes.
Tai Chi for Health is a series of 16 classes involving slow-moving meditation exercises that combine stress reduction with slow movements.
The Diabetes Prevention Program is a no-cost, year-long class focused on making healthy lifestyle changes to lower your risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
Registration is required to participate in these classes.
