DOH-Charlotte Expands Clinical Services to Include School and Sport Physicals and EKGs

Charlotte County, Fla. — The Florida Department of Health in Charlotte County (DOH-Charlotte) is expanding its clinical services ahead of the upcoming school year to include school and sport physicals and electrocardiograms (EKGs).

“The expansion is part of DOH-Charlotte’s mission to meet the public health needs of the county while keeping costs down,” Health Officer Joseph Pepe said Monday.

Students from prekindergarten through 12th grade who are making their initial entry into a Florida school must present a record of a school entry health examination completed within one year before enrollment.

Florida law also requires EKG screenings for student-athletes in public high schools starting in the 2026–2027 school year.

DOH-Charlotte will continue to provide other child-focused services such as dental (up to 20-year-olds), car seat inspections, and nutrition via the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program.

College entrance health screenings are also available.

Expansion of Services for Men and Women

In order for students to have a successful school year, it’s essential that their parents, grandparents, and legal guardians take care of their own health as well.

DOH-Charlotte is expanding its services geared towards adults, including EKGs, annual physical and mental health exams, and routine blood work panels, such as thyroid and cholesterol.
