The Florida Department of Health in Charlotte County’s (DOH-Charlotte) Community Health Planning, Promotion, and Communication division offers free activities in Charlotte County, Florida, to prevent falls and improve the balance of anyone concerned about experiencing a fall, including older adults.


Tai Chi for health

DOH-Charlotte, in partnership with Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida, offers free Tai Chi for Health presentations provided by an instructor certified by the Tai Chi for Health Institute.

Tai Chi is a slow-moving meditation exercise that combines stress reduction with slow movements.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Tai Chi “is a good example” of the kind of exercise that can make people’s legs stronger and improve their balance.
