Florida Department of Health in Charlotte County's (DOH-Charlotte) Environmental Public Health is responsible under Chapter 514, Florida Statutes for the routine surveillance of water quality and safety at all public swimming pools in Charlotte County, Florida.
Environmental Public Health staff conducts routine inspections of all public swimming pools — including spas, wading pools, interactive water features, and special purpose pools — to:
- examine the water chemistry levels.
- verify the availability of lifesaving equipment.
- look for safety hazards in the pool and on the pool wet deck.
- ensure that the proper anti-entrapment devices, gates, and fencing are installed.
Staff also inspect the pool equipment area to ensure that the area is properly secured, the disinfection and filtration equipment are working properly and that there no other safety hazards present in that area that could affect the pool.
