Temporary holding septic tanks are designed to temporarily store sewage and wastewater until it can be transported to a treatment facility.
Unlike septic tanks, which treat wastewater and allow some to leach into the ground, holding tanks are watertight and have no outlet piping, meaning they must be pumped out regularly to prevent overflow.
DOH-Charlotte inspects temporary holding septic tank installations in Charlotte County to inspect tank integrity and approve their placement.
Installation Requirements
If you wish to install a holding tank, you must provide DOH-Charlotte a copy of a contract with a permitted disposal company stating the holding tank capacity, a site plan, and the scheduled pumping frequency. Site site plan must include the proposed location of the holding tank in proximity to all surrounding features, such as potable waterlines, surface water, buildings, and driveways.
The applicant must also submit a completed Application for Construction Permit (DEP 4015) and a holding tank permit fee to DOH-Charlotte.
